Have you ever walked up an escalator instead of just riding up? It’s a pretty good workout, right? That’s the kind of workout you get from a Stairmaster Stepmill. Stepmills are regular step cardio machines on steroids. Unlike a regular step machine, the Stepmill is a revolving staircase that requires exercisers to step up onto each step rather than having the step mechanism assist on the way up. These machines are like a diamond in the rough in most health clubs. Exercisers are often intimidated by them but there’s no need to be. It’s a tough workout but the best one you’ll ever have.

The Stairmaster brand is best known for providing the “workout you love to hate”. They have been in business since 1983 and provide workout equipment options that get real results.

You might think that walking up an endless flight of stairs would be tough on your knees but at lower speeds, the Stepmill is just as good, if not better at burning calories with minimal impact, than a treadmill workout. Your workout will also be more efficient because you lift your bodyweight with every step (rather than riding, like an escalator) which helps you burn more calories in a shorter amount of time. A shorter, more efficient workout means you spend less time in the gym and reach your goals quicker. Other benefits include strengthening your core, improving your balance and maintaining good mobility in your joints especially if you swing your arms instead of holding the handrails. Most importantly, its a superior cardiovascular workout that benefits your heart and lungs.

The 7000pt and 7000pt Blue Screen models have 20 resistance levels, 9 pre-set programs, a nationally recognized fitness test and a firefighter test. Talk about tough! They are also Polar Heart Rate monitor compatible. The SM916 model has 13 pre-set programs also including the fitness and firefighter tests. It’s also Polar Heart Rate compatible and has an optional LCD TV to add entertainment to your workout. The 7000pt Silver Screen model has similar features but with a slightly more advanced console.

The Stepmill 5 is an excellent upgraded machine. It has a larger step surface, oval hand rails and an Ergo-bar hand grip for more comfort, stability and support. It includes three different fitness tests and a Landmark Challenge Program that lets you simulate climbing 11 different famous places like the Statue of Liberty, the Eiffel Tower or the Great Pyramid of Giza.

Stairmaster Stepmills are an excellent choice for cardiovascular workouts and a great cross-training option to include in a well-rounded fitness program. No matter what option you choose, you are guaranteed a superior piece of exercise equipment.
